Previous Next. For 2 days before your Vasectomy Procedure: Avoid the intake of alcohol. Day of your Vasectomy Procedure: On the day of your procedure, remember to have a good hearty breakfast and have a lot to drink like water or juice. Contact the clinic office if, after arriving home, you have any of the following symptoms: Signs of infection, including fever and chills. Redness, swelling, excessive pain or bleeding, or discharge at the incision site.

Difficulty urinating. Pain that you cannot control with your medications. Call the clinic office or if you have questions or concerns. For the longer term—semen testing: Sperm can remain in your semen for three to six months, or longer, after your vasectomy. Therefore, it is very important for you to continue to use contraception until your semen is analyzed and you are cleared by your doctor.

At the three-month mark, a semen specimen should be brought to our office for fertility analysis. It is recommended that you have at least 20 ejaculations during that first three-month period. You should also abstain from ejaculation for two or three days prior to collection of the semen specimen. For a conventional vasectomy, one or two small cuts are made in the skin of the scrotum to reach the vas deferens. The vas deferens is cut and a small piece may be removed, leaving a short gap between the two ends.

The area shaved should measure about inches in diameter. You should do this either the day before or the day of your vasectomy. You may lather the scrotum with soap and water and shave with a disposable blade razor. It is most ideal to shave three 3 to five 5 days before your procedure because this will allow time for any shaving nicks or abrasions to heal.
